This glacier is the largest tropical ice field in the world, covering around 44 km² in the Vilcanota Mountain Range. Discovered in 1963 by American glaciologist Lonnie Thompson, its ice cores preserve climate records dating back 1,800 years. The trekking route lasts between 6 and 8 hours and is considered more demanding than other tours.
