Tour Description

Choquequirao, from the Quechua chuqik’iraw (“cradle of gold”), is a 15th-century Inca archaeological complex located in the Apurímac River canyon about 150 km from Cusco. In the past, it served as a political, religious, administrative, and military center, featuring terraces, plazas, and temples. This complex is believed to have been a refuge and center of resistance in Vilcabamba led by the last Incas. Today, visitors can trek through its streets and closely observe its constructions. Due to its architecture, it is often compared to Machu Picchu and even considered a more accessible option for appreciating the original architecture of the Tawantinsuyo.
